According to Business Week.  They realeased a top ten list this week
and Portland was ranked unhappiest based on having the highest rank in
depression, being ranked #12 in suicides, #24 in crime, #4 in divorce,
having 222 cloudy days per year (well I’m out) and an unemployment
rate of 7.8%.  The depression rate was based on anti-depressant sales.

Saturday I went to the library, picked up the book written by the Human Lie Detector man I’ve talked so much about the last few weeks, as well as Drawing Words and Writing Pictures, a mini-comic creation textbook. Went down to the beach, listened to the Dodgers Spring Training on the radio while reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, a fascinating book. Then I met Stephanie for coffee, talked for two hours in the coffee shop and didn’t want it to end. She bought me a feather necklace, it’s like a better version of the wing I used to wear, and it expresses the same sentiment. Came home, watched Rocket Science which I wish went somewhere but none the less was a very entertaining idling car. Unfortunately he has a pronounced stutter and I seem incapable of watching someone play a character like that and not start imitating them. I must have sounded scared out of my gord when I talked to Steph later on that night.

Then today I got up and went to the mall, after Steph uh, made me aware of some of the rules I wasn’t as yet aware of. Made another huge chunk of a payment to UC Berkeley, I’m about a quarter of the way through, bought tickets for Paley Fest ’09 where they’re going to show the three unaired episodes of Pushing Daisies, introduced by Bryan Fuller! There are also two panels with Whedon, one for Dollhouse and one for Dr. Horrible. I want to go to those too, but they’re about three times as expensive as the Pushing Daisies screening. This is the same festival which hosted the Buffy reunion last year. I gotta give LA credit, it has stuff going on that I’m super interested in.

Feels good to have a weekend worth checking in over. More Dodgers Baseball, and then it’s back to building airports, but work is becoming more and more comfortable, so no worries. And…and…it’s been 75 sunny with a nice breeze all weekend, the weather that sells LA. It really is a beautiful place.

apparently people outside the academy awards were protesting the movie Milk. I don’t care what your political opinions are, we can discuss them in the proper arenas, but protesting a dead civil rights leader is a KKK level of hate and presenting them as anything other than that is tainted journalism. You have the right to say what you want, but I have the right to call a spade a spade and classify you as a hate organization.

p.s. my dad made a comment when the writer of Milk mentioned prop 8 in his speech. the levels of hypocrisy necessary for this family to continue to function as a unit baffle me. My mom might be willing, but I refuse to be hurt by someone I love. That is the one thing I can’t tolerate

Eliza Duschu uses the word “sitch” in casual conversation, which really
makes that wall between who she is and the characters she’s played start to
blur. If she drops a “five by five” I might cease to think of her as an
actress and just start calling her Faith all the time.

Mel’s bestest friend. A little Dana-ish she is, specially the pants. Chloe is gone, sad to say, unless I end up doodling her today. Entire world is being rethought

I’m thrilled, I have to admit, with how much my drawing style has changed over the course of the week, and how quickly I’m gaining drawing skill. I actually like the way Mel looks now, and that’s a first. I think I’ve stopped trying to draw well, and instead draw what I like. Which I couldn’t have done without all the attempts at trying to draw well.

Melanie the Mystic, floatin’ pencils since 2008!

Whedonesque

To all my Whedon loving friends, Joss’ new show Dollhouse premiered tonight and it was fantastic!!! Do yourself a favor and Hulu or Tudou or whatever it tomorrow, you won’t want your time back.
